PGR 4 Looking Better and Better
August 31, 2007 on 11:14 am | In Xbox world | No CommentsI was chatting with my next-door co-worker Annie, and we got on the topic of PGR 4. There’s been lots of discussion about the game, with the recent showings at Leipzig, PAX, and X07 Canada. The game is a blast to play, and the graphics are pretty amazing.
With the new weather system, re-worked career mode, lots of new vehicles (not to mention new tracks and locations), PGR 4 is going to be a blast. Check out the detail on these new screenshots. PGR 4 is just over a month away. Nice.
Enjoy the weekend!
Gamerscore Blogcast - Episode - 030 - Interviews - Hellgate London, Gears of War, Turok, Mass Effect, Need for Speed, Skate
August 31, 2007 on 4:00 am | In Xbox world | No CommentsSo this isn’t really a podcast so much as it’s some interviews I did with game representatives who were kind enough to spend the weekend at PAX with the Gamerscore team.
Remember that these podcasts are available via the RSS feed, or the iTunes feed as well.
We don’t usually do interviews, but hopefully these are entertaining. I got the chance to speak to:
- Tricia Gray (Hellgate London) - Details of Hellgate London, Why the savior of the world has to pay for armor, Halloween, and mustaches (ok, so it’s not that informative, but we had a good time!)
- Chris Isaki (Gears of War) - Details of Gears of War, Mouse + Keyboard, New content on the 360 status
- John Grimm (Turok) - Details of Turok, Dino-hunting death mini-games, stealth vs. run-and-gun, what if you “nade tag” a dino
- Jay Watamaniuk (Mass Effect) - Details of Mass Effect, Does he play Mass Effect as a hero or a prick, Bioware/Bioshock blunders, Aliens planting eggs in your chest
- Ron Yatco (EA Blackbox) - Details of Skate, the Flick-Stick, Details of Need for Speed Pro Street, the Nissan Sentra’s influence on street racing worldwide
If you are itching for some more PAX coverage, check out Channel 10:

This week’s GSBlogcast/video/podcast/thing with Laura from Channel 10 which is available here.
- Rock Band at PAX
- Microsoft struts their stuff at PAX
PS - I finally uninstalled iTunes (had some weird redraw/crashing problems on my Vista machine). I’m using the Zune software (using Juce for my podcast aggregation) - let me know if you see any wonky metadata issues on the MP3.
GOW Hidden Fronts Free Starting Next Week
August 31, 2007 on 3:00 am | In Xbox world | No CommentsNice! Beginning Monday, the Hidden Fronts Map Pack will join the Annex gametype and Multiplayer Map Pack 1 as another piece of free downloadable content for Gears of War.
From the media alert:
With nearly 500,000 downloads to date, the “Gears of War®” Hidden Fronts Map Pack has become the No. 1 piece of premium downloadable content on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
“Gears of War” has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide, and continues to hold the title of most popular Xbox 360 game on Xbox LIVE, as “Gears of War” recorded the most number of unique players among all Xbox 360 games in August 2007, as well as the highest cumulative number of hours played by Xbox LIVE members.
In the Hidden Fronts Map Pack, players can clash for control of four dynamic areas, including Bullet Marsh, Garden, Process, and Subway:
Bullet Marsh
In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
Garden
This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
Process
Fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
Subway
Timgad ’s Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.
Gears of War is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. For more details, visit >http://gearsofwar.com/news/

X07 Canada, Live from Toronto
August 28, 2007 on 11:47 am | In Xbox world | No CommentsI jumped a flight from Redmond to Toronto, and joined in the festivities at X07 Canada, Microsoft Canada’s premier gaming event for journalists. As in years past, Xbox.com/ca’s Jade, Jeff, and the rest of the Canada team kept the doors open into the evening, and invited 150 community members to check out some of the games coming this fall. Check out their coverage on Xbox.com/ca.
There were more than 60 stations set up with Xbox 360 and Games for Windows titles, from Microsoft, EA, Activision, 2K, Sega, Eidos, Midway, Namco Bandai, THQ, Ubisoft, and Vivendi. The Bungie guys were on site, answering quesitons, and showing part of the single player campaign, and giving away a few awesome prizes. And everyone left with some cool SWAG, and everyone seemed to have a great time.
At about 3, someone in the street hit a power pole or transformer or something, and the entire block lost power. The team scrambled to find generators, and we got most of the games back up and running after the community arrived. Despite having no lights or air conditioning, the event was successful in letting everyone hang out with each others, play some pre-release games, and get questions answered. Thanks for your patience, and we’re glad you all stuck around and had a great time.
More coverage from some of the folks there (I’ll upload links as I get a little more time):
As usual, here’s my barrage of photos (feel free to add tags and comments on Flickr, or use the photos on your site).
